Leasing doesn't exactly allow anyone to buy a Ferrari, or even a BMW. Although monthly payments for Leases are cheaper, there are other costs which make a lease about as cost prohibitive as financing. Therefore, it all comes down to preference.

Many people get monthly "car allowances" from their employer. If you finance a car, then your monthly payment will be higher, due to interest. Many people in this situation lease a car. That way, there monthly payments are on-par with their car allowance.
