Keep in mind that when BMW went from the 2.5 to the 2.8, HP only increased by 4, but torque went up significantly. To remain competitive, on a numbers basis, with it contemporaries, BMW needs more HP. If BMW makes the 3.0 as efficient as the 2.5, it will produce 189*3.0/2.5 HP = 227 HP. 75-HP per liter should not be hard for BMW.

In the end, your guess is just as good as mine. I was only restating what I read in AutoWeek.
