02 m3 list; already starting? (m) (archive)

Some time ago someone was complaining that when he went to the dealer (in the Bay area) he was told the list was of such length (25 or so) that to expect delivery in August 01.

If production week 1 for the 02 m3 begins Sept 01, it is possible that somewhere, sometime soon, if not already, someone is putting down a deposit for a mid Oct 01 delivery of a
02 m3!!

So, my guess is that the 01 m3 list will spill some people over into an 02 model. So, if someone wants an m3, eventually, it is best to just get on a list where you think you want to buy it, ask them to skip over you if your turn comes up too soon, and finalize the order when you are ready.

I'm feeling almost certain I will "pass" if it is a 3.25 liter, and it's almost certain it is a "go" for me if it's a 3.4 liter. However, I do want to hear about Geneva and I want to get down to the NY auto show to see for myself.
