: The car came with either the Dunlop 8080 or the Michelin Pilot Sport. The 8080s suck (I had them as replacements on my '96). The Michelins are very good, but can be expensive and hard to get. I have Yokohama AVS Sport now and love them...the only tire I've had that's better is the S0-2 Pole Position, but it's $60 more per tire for maginally better performance.

The S-02 Pole Position is probably the best tire I have ever had on my 98' M3. The tire in the rain was insane, Hydro planning, wet grip the best I have ever seen. The only problem is the rears tires wore out in 7k miles. These are the same tires they were putitng on the new porsches. I have the AVS sport now, does not even compare in the traction dept, in wet or dry. Yes they are much cheaper that the poles, but if you have deep pockets and really like to drive hard as I do go for the S-02, you wont be sorry.
