: Do you have a choice of options/color/etc or do you take whatever comes first? What if you're #1 on the list and interested in a silver but the first arrival is white?

.................
the bay area highest bidder scene which you may have read about below is not representative of reports we've been getting about how things will be handled with the new m3 at other dealers or have been historically handled by bmwna with the intro of other new models.

What I have been told, which seems to be representative, is when the dealer is notified of their forthcoming allotment for the month, the salesmen call in the first people on the list. Those folks go to the dealer and order what they want a la carte. When the car is delivered if you don't like it you can get your money back, order a different color m3, or order a different BMW, say a 330i. There is probably a 4th choice if you are unhappy, which is to let them keep your deposit and move to a higher number on the list and be one of the first in line for the 02 m3.

I am #7 on the list in metro Boston. My dealer will get 4 or 5 01 m3's during Nov and Dec 00. That should mean I will be in the Jan 01 or Feb 01 allotment. If you don't mind having them hold onto your $500 or $1000, and you think you want to buy a m3 at some point, I think being on a list at a dealer you like is the way to go. Pardon the pun, but it gives you lottsa options! Keep us informed with what you decide, where you are etc. and welcome to the party.
