the new M3 will have near 345hp (no V8, so less torque), a six speed, traction control, just as high of a top speed (rougly equivalent aero, rougly the same gearing, one DAMN annoying electronic limiter). The C5 advantage is TORQUE, and (IMHO) one of the only advantages. Think about it this way (for the M3), with ~275-280ft-lb of torque on a 320-340hp motor, one would anticipate 0-60 times of <5s (given the 290ft-lb Dinan Stage 3 does 4.7s). Since the C5 is tested between 4.8 and 5, the cars would be VERY similar. However, the M3 has a back seat, is quieter, "stealthier" The vette has power.

As for active handling, in talking w/ vette people, it isn't THAT big of a deal. While the ability to change a car from docile to tight in a flip of a switch is gee-whiz, if you are in the market for a sports car, "lincoln town car" mode will probably be a waste o' money.

Also, I have seen Vettes that have a base price in the 42-43 range, while the M3 may be in the 44-46 range (Base), the options available for the M3 (sunroof for example) are extensive (compared to the vette).

not to say the vette isn't neat (esp. the C5), my tastes just run to a more refined driving experience. The thing about hte vette has always been its on the edge feel, (lots of torque, light chassis) however, with the C5, they tried to get that AND luxury. In my opinion, it didn't work.
