actually it was someone else who stated that smaller wheels are better (increased sidewall height) for straight line acceleration. Their argument appears logical. If you ever watch a still of a top fuel dragster at the line, the hub of the wheel actually turns about 15+ degrees ahead of the tire (they actually bolt the tires to the rim). However. I think that the 0.1sec (1/4mile time) per inch is reasonable. BUT, I think that the brake clearance w/ 17 rims MIGHT be a problem (depends on the rim) If you look at an M5 rim there isn't much clearance between the brake caliper and the rim, and the M3 rotors (if we accept the tech specs that have been passed around as true) are just as big (13+")

overall, I don't think most people will notice the difference between 17 and 18 in either handling OR acceleratoin (by most I mean other than really consistant drag racer or really good autoxers )
