The M3 was only about $4500 more then an equally equipped 328 sport. That's not enough of a difference for larger more powerful engine, bigger brakes, different suspension, seats, and other enhnacements. Most car companies (including BMW) charge about $5k just for a bigger engine and slightly more equipment (look at a 323 to 328 - $5K or a Lexus GS300 to GS400 - $7K or an S430 tp S500 - $8K). Add all the other differences and the M3 should have been $10K more then the 328. An M3 was cheaper then a nicely loaded 328 convertible!!! I'm glad it was cheap, but I understand the price increase on the new one.
