As for the post of "100HP/liter is not that special" in a very small way it is not, but look at an Integra, it only has what 1.8L? The extra 1.6L in the M3 is going to add a considerable amount of reciprocating mass to the engine. The force on the Pistons/Rods alone is going to be a lot greater. You know, the whole F=ma thing. This is why a Ferrari will make over 100hp/L with 3.6L making about 400hp, this takes a lot of expensive development. And cheeper Honda will only make 200hp from its powerplant. Sure it's all fine and dandy that a honda makes +100hp/L but who cares if you're only getting 200hp. Now the M with 343hp, this is a very significant technical achievement just as in the case of the 360.
