: Bruce - In your opinion, is BMW limiting the number of M3s on purpose? Why are so few available when the demand is there to sell more?

I think one factor you are forgetting is ramping up production. They will work harder on the ones going down teh line to ensure production rules and finish and finish requirements. When they get that up to where they want it you will see the production numbers rise. We saw this last fall with the X5 production. I took a tour at about noon and they already completed their allotment of X5s for the day.

: Is it poor planning by BMW? Is BMW's production operated so poorly that they lose sells? Do they not care or could it be a "planned" this way?

Planned. Plus they might be keeping supply a bit lower to keep the buzz going.

: How important to BMW is the profit from the sales of these cars (M3 and M5 in particular)? Same question except for the Z8? Are they making a profit, breaking even or a loss?

I dunno what the numbers are. I am sure BMW makes a pretty penny on each M3 and M5 however. The Z8 was almost axed due to cost overruns. They may be barely breaking even or taking a loss on those I am not sure.

: Could BMW produce more M3s or have planned better so more M3s would be available at introduction time?

see my response to the first paragraph
