If you hang out on I-5 in Del Mar (just north of San Diego) around 9am you will see lots of BMW test mules. I saw the M3 about 4 months ago with lots of tape and no badges. If you see one in the area it is likely that there will be more, usually 3-4 cars. The last one I saw was an E46 M3, the 323 Estate and an Undisguised M5. I have heard from a local dealer that there is a test site in AZ that they run to from LA.
