I believe its because in the 5 series. The V8 models dont get aluminum front suspension the inline 6 gets. The V8 also gets larger brakes i think. And the V8s steering setup might be heavier as well since i cant use the rack and pinion set up of the 6 cylinder models. I believe the V8 models tend to have more options as well which adds weight.
