: ... I decided to tell the dealer to scratch my name off the list, just don't think I can wait that long. I'm just going to get an E36 instead. I figure I can slap on an AA Stage II Turbo plus a ton of other mods and end up with something much faster and better handling than a stock E46, for a lot less money. Since I plan on racing it, I just can't justify the wait and extra money ... I mean ... the E46 sure looks sweet and I'm sure it's "better" in lots of little ways, but for me I decided it's just not worth it. Has anyone else given up on the E46 and got an E36 instead lately? Do you regret your decision? Just curious ...

I considered jumping the ship as well. Last weekend, went to test drive CLK320 (~same price)
and the Jaguar XJ8.
The former is all-around competent coupe, with good looks, potent V6 engine and comfortable seats. Alas, it has as much soul as Honda Accord.
The Jaguar is a mystery to me - why would anyone consider this 4,500 lbs car a sports sedan? Aside from poser value, it's as unimpressive to drive as 4-cyl Camry.

I'll stick with the BMW, thank you very much.
