: No offense, but that Viper must've been in 6th gear if he was only 4 car lengths ahead of you in a run from 75-120mph. If he had started in 3rd, which redlines at 111 for the Viper, he would have practically been a speck before you changed gears.

yeah he was probably in 5th or something. didn't see him downshift.

:Keep in mind that a Viper runs 0-130 in LESS THAN HALF the time it takes an M3 (14.8 secs vs. about 30.5). That's fast. The E46 will definitely do better, but not enough to make it a close race. Not even a little. I really suggest you dont try to race Vipers unless you want to be handed your balls. It's like an M3 racing a Saturn, except not nearly as close.

I know Vipers are fast. Just wanted to see how fast... Heh.

: Oh yeah, and again no offense, but the E46 M3 will not smoke a 911. It should be pretty even in acceleration to a point, but with a better power/wt ratio, better aerodynamics, and lower frontal area, the 911 would likely win. In the twisties, the M3 handles great, but the 911 sticks better and weighs 500lbs less. Just trying to be realisic.

Well assuming E46 is 3400 lbs. A 911 weighs between 2900-3200 lbs. So I'm assuming the variance is due to options on the car. So average it makes it 3050 lbs. Maybe the M3 wouldn't SMOKE the 911, but I think it would still win in either straight line or twisty.
