I will complete my Masters in Electrical Engineering this May. I design computer chips like the Pentium. I understand where you're coming from.

What noone else on this board has told you is that people go to college solely for career reasons (i.e. to increase their earning potential). When they were entering college, most of them wanted, and still want, to make a lot of money. We all feel that pressure at that point in our lives. Therefore, you're on the right track by thinking how you'll use your degree to improve your quality of living. But as you go through college, I think you'll learn, as I did, that your career takes away from other parts of your life. In most cases, your career/job becomes your life. Therefore, choose it wisely.

Yes, consider money in your decision on your major, but it should be a very small part of the equation. And don't be afraid to change your major, until you find something you're at least comfortable with.

By the way, I bought myself a 325is in my junior year and plan to buy myself a late graduation present next spring: a 2001 (e46) M3. Do well in school, and the money will follow (this applies more often than not).
