The dual tips give the muffler a great sound and aid in the speedy expulsion of exhaust fumes from the muffler itself. Note that the M3 is a six cylinder engine, so to have a quad exhaust with four separate pipes would be impossible, as two sets of two cylinders would share headers and pipes, and the remaining two cylinders would get their own exhaust systems. This would create an unbalanced motor.
