If you discount the Cobra R as "just another Ford" you're too stupid to be on this list. There's nothing wrong to giving the nod to another manufacturer when they turn out something really special, as the Cobra R is. And for its purpose (a dedicated track car) it will kick the shit out of the E46 M3, E39 M5, and I'd guess even a vintage BMW M1 on a race track. As far as the muscle car heritage goes, don't forget that the Cobras now have independent rear suspension. That makes this a whole new ball game...
Plus add the exclusivity of only 300 being made, the Brembo racing brakes, racing tires, no back seat, no air (or climate control for you BMW guys...), 6 spd, 385 horse from a 5.4L OHC engine (no pushrods here thank you) and you have an incredible machine. Car and Driver didn't lie when they flogged it around the race track and called it "A bright-red rocket ship that goes, stops, and handles unlike any other production Mustang before it.". : : What a joke.....!
: : A Ford Mustang for over 54k. Maybe I am missing something but are those guys from Ford think somebody would spend almost 60k (including all taxes) if you can have an E46 M3 for at least 5k less....The Cobra R seems very overpriced....and looking at the performance numbers I think the E46 M3 will be still a better sports car...
: : Now, suddenly I think , compared to the Cobra R, the E46 M3 is a great deal , go figure !!!!!
: : ACdakar
: : PS: I couldn't stop laughing when I saw the price !!!
