I have read your previous posts regarding such plan. My input is:
The Porsche has an almost absolute high status appeal. Kids collect 911 hot wheels, people who don't know cars would at least say.."it's a red sport car, driven by in a blur"... rather than ..."it's a silver sedan"... for a M3. And the Cabriolet with the top down on a crisp spring day, with the 3.6 Variocam engine over your ears... it certainly makes the cost of having $60K sitting in your garage the other 5 days of the week worthwhile.
The Passat is larger than the M3. The all wheel drive is nice. It is a REALLY nice car for the money.
I think you should buy the m3 as an addition. You can always give up 1 of your kids :-)
Seriously, my suggestion is not to sell the Porsche. I have contemplated this exact point over and over many times. Looking at $60K in the garage sitting pretty... gathering dust. But if you sell it, you will want to own a Porsche again at a later time, and what if you can't find one as good??? Upgrade the Passat to the M3 if you must, you have the SUV to haul people around. Then you have 2 high performance cars at 1 time. Just an addition $20K... Put money in high tech stocks now in the down market, by the time the M3 is out, you will have gained the needed $20K.
:-)
