: I thought the engine in the european e36 m3 was hand built. There is a post on this board today that says the e46 m3 engine is not built by hand. Does anyone kmow about the assembly of the new engine? It's important to how many cars BMW will be able to produce. I understand this is were the bottleneck is for M5 production. They are only able to hand produce 30 a day, which is split with the Z8.

: On the bmw.com site, they say the engine will be built in Munich. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I don't see any way of BMW able to meet demand or price in making the engine by hand. All M engines are made in Munich.
