I have this nifty little shareware program that compares tire/wheel sizes. Taking a look with the stock tire size 225/45R18 front and 255/40R18 rear here are the conversions for both a 17" and 16" with the 225 on all 4's. I imagine BMW will most likely recommend with the 17" 225/50R17 for the closest calibration. The 16"s spin 0.88% and 1.10% faster than stock which may cause calibration probs versus 0.44% and 0.67% on the 17". 18"s aren't an option because no one makes winters in those sizes.
