E36 M3 had 4 wheel ventilated brake rotors, and E36 328's had just front ventilated rotors. this just means that the rotor is not solid, but rather has a gap between the two sides separated by a series of angled fins to dissipate heat. Also, the famed "cross-drilled" rotors on Porsches are actually cast into that shape rather than drilled after the fact. Actual cross-drilled rotors form cracks that propagate from the holes. Not good.
