They're just for show. Granted, they look damn cool, especially with aftermarket pipes. I believe Eric Wenberg, the former ///M Product Manager in the U.S., called them the "Porsche View," as in what the P-Cars see in races. Whatever.

Did BMW go with 2 sets of tail-pipes purely for
non-functional, stylistic reasons? It's an inline
6, which means only one set of headers. The pictures
I've seen of the bottom of the car also idicate that
the exhaust piping goes to only one side. That other
set better be functional!! Did they do the same lame
shit on the current M Coupe and MZ.
