How did they do it with the M5? Currently you order a M5 and 3 months later you can get in...
Spoke yesterday with BMW dealer (main dealer of Luxembourg, Kontz, huge garage, with Z8, X5, M5, 330Ci cabrio (!) etc in showroom) trying to get a pre-order for an E46M3. He said they don't take any more pre-orders besides the 20 from March/April since there seems to be uncertainty about the release date. He somewhat hinted the release date could be pushed back into late 2000 instead of September. Also it seems to be impossible to get pricing info of BMW themselves. He could help me much more with any other info than what's available on the net. Argh, so no pre-order for me yet. I think I'm gonna call another dealer just to be sure.
Perhaps BMW want to release the M3 when the 'X' option (letter X behind type, like a 323CiX) is also for the M3 available. This is the special traction control thing/4WD afaik? Other BMWs 3series should have this option available for end of summer.
I don't think the US will have much more delay than we Euros do, since the dealer told me BMW is nicely planning quotas per region, and he assured me every region is treated likewise.
