a repeating thread has been the m3's weight. if the initial publicity was a "trial balloon," BMW certainly got an ear full about weight. it would make sense to me. why would they want their masterpiece referred to as "a great car EXCEPT that it weighs too much".

I'm curious, how could BMW go about reducing the weight at this point? Wouldn't reduction measures like a revised exhaust, aluminum body panels, thinner windshields, less soundproofing either take too long or be undesirable for the typical M3 buyer?
