I don't think there has ever been a new model that didn't have some problems associated with it...and yes, that will also go for the new M3 in the now two year-old E46 body.
I think the main issues BMW will ultimately face will be engine related. But I also think anything new (for the M3) like the drive-by-wire, the new rear-end and possibly some suspension pieces or their layout might need tweaking or changing. But most of the time car makers will not make changes in cars that are already produced and sold (unless it's safety related) but will "cut-in" the changes over time as manufacturing continues. This obviously leaves the early cars with less than the best! And with a performance car such as a M3, these faults are not kept a secret as the later models are considered to be much better and more desireable. It's just a fact in the automotive industry regardless of manufacturer; don't buy the first year's car.
Don't be concerned about anyone flaming you...continue to say what you feel. They may not like what you have to say but they must respect you for saying it... I do.

Look out friend, I posted almost the same thing saying I was going to wait 'til 04 to get my next M3 so they could work out the "bugs" on the car and got my ass flamed off this board. God forbid we that own BMW's think our beloved company may not come out of the box with the perfect product.
