Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't putting the M5 engine in the new M3 hurt the price point that BMW is aiming for with both cars? I would think that the price and performance of the M3 would have to be slightly lower then the M5. Why would anyone buy the M5 if you could get a 400hp M3?
I guess for the same reason that people bought the 528 instead of the 328. I guess you also could have asked why anyone would buy a 740 instead of the 540. Sometimes people just want/need a larger car.
