quadraplegic doesn't mean he has no control over his arms. It means he has lost some function of his arms...the amount of impairment depends on the levelof the injury. Christopher Reeves is a high quad who has no control over his arms (he uses a "sip and puff" wheelchair to control how it moves). Lower level quads will have varying degrees of functionality of their arms and can use hand controls to drive cars (levers for gas, brake and a ball to steer among other things). Quadraplegics may or may not need a power wheelchair. Also, if the level is low enough, some quadreplegics can live without the assistance of others.
Take home message....quadraplegia does not neccessarily mean no control of the arms.
