I always assumed that the discounted price wasn't a gimmick to move more cars, but the result of a tax-based incentive provided to BMW the German government in order to increase tourism. Unless this is the case, it would make no sense to offer a more complicated delivery process including a month's worth of insurance for a significantly discounted price.

I dunno, but no other German manufacturer offers price breaks on Euro delivery of cars. Merceds doesn't, Porsche doesn't...I don't think Audi or VW even offer Euro delivery. You can get some good deals on Saabs and Volvos thru E.D.

Any thoughts on this theory and why it wouldn't apply to the M3 production run?

My guess? Purley profit driven. They can sell the cars for more thru US delivery, plus they don't have to throw in the first aid kit and warning triangle (yeah not much cost there) plus thru don't have to include insurance (maybe the government does subsidize it? I don't know).
