That's one reason why the 993TT, 996GT3 and 996TT are all 3.6 liters, not 3.4 liters like the 996. You're right, the 996GT3 and 996TT use 4 valve heads, but the case itself (remember it's a flat 6, not a V-6) is the same.


I thought the 993 was an air cooled 2 valve design and the 996 is liquid cooled with 4 valves. I think the three different cars (993 TT, 996 NA, and the 996 TT) all use three unique engines.

Haven't we learned from Honda that hp numbers by themselves aren't relevant in real life driving situations? Audi's gains appear to be via turbos, which have their own set of problems. And, Porsche's gains are only incremental, and don't offset the inherent case and oiling weaknesses with the "new" 996 case. Don't forget the 996 Twin Turbo uses the GT3 (a la 993 Twin Turbo) case, not the 996 case. Yes, no one expects BMW to stand still, but do you really expect them to create a brand new motor in just one year?
