You're getting the lowest price with-which a particular dealer can make a desirable profit. However you would get an even lower price if the independant dealers were eleminated from the system, as would every other customer.

Not necessarily....the manufacturer would assume the profit of the dealer. The total manufacturer profit would be the same, but all the profit would be held by the manufacturer and not split with the dealer. Just look at some companies that do sell direct to the end customer. The disintermediated chain prices are very similar to the chains that contain intermediaries.
