I assume you're talking about warranty work. Dealers perform warranty work under certain provisions of the franchise agreement. Dealers get paid by the manufacturer/distributor for warranty work they do. The warranty is a contract between the manufacturer/distributor and the car owner. Any authorized repair center is bound to perform the warranty work on the customer's car as the agent of the manufacturer/distributor. Please remember you don't have to take your car back to the selling dealer for warranty work. Your warranty is with the manufacturer/distributor, not the selling dealer. Where you bought the car, even if you bought it directly from the manufacturer/distributor, is irrelevant to the warranty.

Regarding, post-warranty service. Well, the dealer becomes an independent service center, just like your local, non-dealer, independent garage.
