"The law" I think you are referring to is one is which franchisors/distributors/manufacturers can not directly compete with franchisees/dealers. It doesn't have anything to do with automobiles specifically. Rather, it is part of anti-trust legislation. That may be what you are talking about, but it is not what the thread is about.
