Well, as Bruce posted below, it's quite pointless to guess about performance figures. Let's wait and see how the E46 M3 will perform.

You know, that I've already ordered mine. Actually I'm coming from an M Roadster and it was certainly not the power increase of some horses an a few nm that made me change. Much more important was a lack of space in my MZ3. So, I was looking for a car which is at least as quick as my M Roadster and - in the same time - much more spacious. I really considered a Porsche 996. But the M3 is more of a car than the 911 and I used to prefer BMW's to Porsche's - think this will never change *g*. The E46 M3 will perform very well - at least like a 911 996 but it is no Porsche and therefore less expensive. So, as you can see for some people (like me) it was not the most important point to get some more power...

Anyway, I can imagine that somebody who has been driving the E36 M3 (321 hp) for a certain time will think twice whether it is worth it to trade it in for a car which SEEMS only a little better. But that's exactly what BMW certainly is aware of. I'm convinced that the E46 M3 will be a big step in M3 history... even for us guys in Europe !

btw... (I know - its pointless...) I can't imagine that the new M3 as a stock car will do 0-100 Km/h in 4.9 or 5.0 s. I believe 5.1 s sounds reasonable from my point of view. The 0-1000 m figure is very sweet though... 24.2 s ! We'll see.

all the best for you and your cars *grin*.

Cheers
Andreas
