I posted a link to a march article regarding future BMW engines and chassie designs. It mentioned a revised 6 series and not a 4 series. Think about it, thereis no room in chassie size or price point for a 4 series with a V8. The articel hinted that the revised 6 series woud be a new concept and an extension of the Z8 technology incorporating cutting edge design. This was also the direction of the replacement for the aging 7 series. The aim of the new 7 series was to leap frog all existing and drawing board cars in the lux class.
In reality the 3 platform is not proportioned for a high output V8 system, yea you can get after market boost to 400hp for the L6 but you are at the limits. BMW has never gone the muscle car direction and I doubt they ever will. They will design a car around a concept incorporating new engine designs and put out a cutting edge car.
