I believe if you call around (maybe _way_ around, like in nearby states too), you will be able to
find a dealer still offering spots on a wait list that's not full past what his expected allocation
will be. But you will certainly be near the end of the line, which I suspect will translate into
seeing your car late summer of next year.

You want to balance the length of the wait list against the allocation that the dealer is likely
to get. It appears that with 5000+ units being made for 2001, dealers will be seeing anywhere
from 1 to maybe 5 or 6 cars per month, depending on their size and sales history.

As a hard data point, I got into slot number 21 at a dealer about 4 weeks ago. That dealer is mid
sized, and will likely see ~3 or 4 cars a month, meaning I'm in for a wait of maybe 7-8 months once
production ramps up, which appears to be January. 8 months past January -> "end of next summer".

$0.02 Best wishes on getting your car. Shop around - dealers vary a lot on size and attitude. Get the list from BMWNA and use the phone to call around.
