No. The number is right around 20%. BMW had sales of around 700k cars in 99 (Rover is not included in that figure) worldwide. They sold roughly 150k of those in the US.
Single biggest market? Yes.
Most influence? Not at all. If we were we would be getting an M3 sedan. However, US demand DID make BMW create the X5 (and X3 and X7 when the come along).
