New "drag race" feature on M3 next year (archive)

According to a tiny sideline article in "auto motor und sport" issue 21/2000 (page 37), new features due for the M3 next year are

o a "race start" feature: when starting in 1st gear, this feature automatically raises the engine RPMs to a level that guarantees optimal acceleration from a standing start. The feature is activated by pressing a button. Sounds like they could name this thing "DRC" -- "drag race control".

o SMG (with buttons at the steering wheel or shifting by pushing/pulling the gear lever)

o M3 convertible is due out "middle of 2001".

We've known about the last 2 points, but I hadn't heard of the drag race feature before...
