I made a childish comment because I don't like when people put down other's cars. If we say that the S4 is much better than the 323 because S4 has 250 hp and the 323 has 170 (difference of 80 hp); then what's going to happen when the E46 M3 comes out and we compare 333 hp to 240 hp (difference of 93 hp)? My point is that they are all nice cars, no matter what people own. I, in fact owned a 97 M3 sedan until last year when I bought my 2000 328i which I'll keep until I get my E46 M3. I love(d) both cars. It would be tough to choose between a 97 M3 and a 2000 328i. Both have good features, both have bad features. But both are good cars. I am sorry if I offended anyone. The 323 is no lesser car because it cannot outperform an S4.
