I have a 00 323ci w/manual trans. One day on the way home from work this Mid 80's Mustang pulled up next to me at the light. From what i could see it had a lot of modifications done to it. It even had "slick" type tires in the rear and very skinny ones in the front. It looked like it was set up for drag racing. Before the light turned green he started to rev his engine and instigate a race. When the light turned green I didnt go for it, I knew he would though. Sure enough he went like a bat out of hell down the road. We met again at the next traffic light. This time I wanted to race just because I thought it would be intersting to see how my 2.5L would fair. So before the light turned green I brought my RPM's up to about 2,800. Then I released the clutch just enough so that it started to make contact. The guy in the Mustang got very excited and started to power brake his racer. Finally the light turns green and I got a little jump on him off the line. I had the throttle floored all the way through first then slammed second. At this time i looked over and i was about 1 cars length in front of him. I quess the guy got too excited and gave it too much gas off the start, he was spinning his tires up until we hit about 45mph. I was still ahead and then the Mustang passed me like i was standing still at 50mph. I was winding out second gear at this time but i couldnt even here my engine over the sound of the mustangs exaust. So in conclusion the only way to beat a 5.0 or better in this type of situation is to hope the other guy cant hook up his tires. Then back off the throttle and brag about it!
