anyway, like i said it was just a wishful sort of comment. Not for the purist racer. am far from a race guy..but I am a minimalist and really dislike all the doodads from sunroofs to leather seats to power seats to -- list goes on. will readily pay extra for the other stuff like lighter doors, etc. all of this should save something - the list had a whole bunch of other differences other than the non ac part..surely that amounts to something.
As it stands my E46 M3 will be ordered with few options if any so I should have one of the lightest ones around but AC is a must so I will in reality go for the E46 M3 until such time as I can afford three M3s!!!
First you say "I want AC" then you say you want "greater weight savings".
AC is a huge addition in weight, and in drain on the engine. I'm on the list (deposit down for two months now) for the e46 M3 GT (in addition to being on the lists for the M3 Coupe and M3 Sedan), and I can say that AC could be available as an option, but should definately not be included as standard. And I would imagine that it's too much of a pain to include as a cost-effective option.
This car is designed as a track car first, as a daily driver second. If you want the compromise of a perfect daily driver that's also a super sports car, you're looking for the e46 M3, not the e46 M3 GT, IMHO.
