Ok here is the Real deal with the GT, I have been trying to keep this a secret, but I can not any longer. My info is straight from the "Horses Mouth", I would love to disclose my source but if he found out he would NEVER tell me anything again, so here goes. The "GT" or "light-weight" will get a V8, yes a V8 I shit you not. The only problem with it coming here is emissions, BMW can not figure out how to bring the car to the USA and still pass smog, they had a hell of a time with the new S54 six cylinder. I know that the V8 engine is already used in the 5 series with the M5 (lev) and the 540 (ulev), but you have to understand that the "5er" cars have a different length and shape firewall then that of the "3er"and BMW can place those "Cats" in a different, better suited location for emissions. In the 3 series the "Space" is just not there for the V8's exhaust manifold and for ideal placement of the "Cats". I do not know why people will think that BMW has been lying to anyone (if at all), since I have never seen an article written up saying that BMW has NO plans in the future to EVER offer a V8 in the "3", the only thing that I have seen is that BMW considered it, and opted not to, but not EVER. I know now that they will offer it in the future, I do not know if it will come to the USA. BMW can only import a certain amount of cars that do NOT meet ULEV, the M5 V8's and the new I6 for the M3 are LEV, not ULEV like the rest of the BMW line. The only way that I can see it coming here is if they stop the M5 Production and stop the six cylinder production of the M3 so that they have a little more room to bring in the M5 V8 for the M3, or they bring a modified version of the 4.4l V8 that is ulev. I for one want the car, I know that they will build it, I do not know when or how much it will cost, nor if they will bring it here, but if they do, count me in.
