All controls are done with one knob which acts like a mouse in certain aspects. Turn knob, cursor moves top-bottom/ left-right. Press knob and item is selected.

I just saw a new 740il with a navigation screen much wider than the old one. It has now become rectangular and takes up all the space where the buttons were on the old one. While I did not take the time to investigate I assume it is touch screen due to the lack of buttons. As to DVD I am not sure but it would make sense.
