No, actually there was no word regarding 996 vs. M3. They just say Porsche is under pressure now because of cars like the E46 M3. BMW really is "out of competition" with the E46 M3 which is a bargain compared to other cars in the same league !
The Article is exciting. As per Sport Auto the new M3 is an entirely new car (...what we knew already of course) which has not much in common with the E36 M3. They believe it's a HUGE improvement !
a win over CLK 55 AMG is good. But i am also curious about the comparison with the 996 if any. thanks andreas.
...and this is by far the best and hottest test that I've seen !!!!! Very cool indeed !
The test is extremely detailed. "Sport Auto" did the Nürburgring and the Hockenheimring (as they always do in their extended tests).
They compared the E46 M3 with the Mercedes CLK 55 AMG (what else...). The M3 was better from almost every point of view - especially performance (acceleration, breaking and handling).
And here's the best statement for those of you guys who think the E46 M3 is not a sports car anymore: "The new M3 is much more of a sports car than the E36 M3" (Sport Auto). You can trust "Sport Auto" because they know better than anybody else what a sports car is...
I might scan the article and send it to DC who can add it to his review and test collection page (as I did with the AMS test recently)...?
