The M3 "is way too heavy"? Way too heavy for what? The M3 is a very high performance street car with luxury and practicality. If you are looking for a two seat high performance street car without the practicality then get a Viper, Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche etc. Beside, you cannot drive the M3 or any of those others anywhere close to their limits on the street or track so what difference does a 200 or 300 lbs make? BMW builds cars that are high performance and durable. That means they can be driven hard for a long time, but it also means you give up some weight savings.
I have the E39 M5 and it is heavy, but it also kicks ass. I have taken it too the track and it was just as quick as my E36. Granted it understeered hard in the carousel, but that was better than the alternative. So you could say the M5 is way too heavy, but too me it is way too awesome. You can rest assured that I won't be selling my M5 because it is too heavy.
The good news is, this is still a free market system. So you do not have to buy the M3. So quit worrying about its weight and buy a lighter car. In fact, if I were you I wouldn't be wasting my time whining on this board, I would be out driving my 360.
