BMW might really want to consider scratching the 2001 MY for the M3. With the rumored changes planned for late 2001, early 2002 cars (satellite radio, ?SMG, color choices), it's going to be pretty frustrating to get a car early only to find that the cars coming out 2 months later will have different/better options.

This is definitely the strangest car introduction I've ever seen. I have been on the waiting list (as many others here have) for such a long period that I can't actually remember how long it's been, but I think it's been about a year and a half. With so many weird twists, from the early intro with rumor of a 3.4 L engine which was posted in several magazines after the Frankfurt Auto show last year(and surely wasn't made up--they must have been given this info by a BMW employee at some level) to speculation on options that would be available, to the neverending delay in production, etc.

Whether they did it on purpose or not, BMW has made this car into somewhat of a "myth". For many people, it's something that they've heard of but never seen. I'm surprised the word of mouth and spread of rumors hasn't turned it into a 600+hp monster with 25" wheels that runs the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds and pulls 1.3 g on the skidpad.

Whatever the case, I think at this point BMW should make sure they don't blow it all by having the car come out and turn out to be a lemon, so I'm glad in that respect that they're waiting. At this point, with rumors of March production, I'd rather they delay it until the options are ready too.
