I have and owned both sreies cars, the new 996 series build quality cannot compare with the 993 series and the sound of the new water cooled engines cannot either. Performance is about the same and the cost to produce the 996 turbo is about 18% less for Porsche. Air cooled 993 type cars are the most sought after of the modern 911's. Read the book 911 the evolution and see why Porsche changed to this new series car and you will understand...it was all about saving $$$.
