I have and owned both sreies cars, the new 996 series build quality cannot compare with the 993 series and the sound of the new water cooled engines cannot either. Performance is about the same and the cost to produce the 996 turbo is

I have had the priviledge of driving both, and I agree with your points. 996tt performance is only comparable to 993tt, not revolutionarily better. It is, however, much nicer appointed than 993tt.

Most people like 996tt because Porsche totally wussified the driver skill requirement for the 996tt. With PSM, any retard with no RWD driving skill can drive the car and feel like he's frigging Schumacher, whereas the 993tt will quickly send the same retard to the ditch via FedEx, as any self respecting sports car should.

Alas, that's the trend in automotive industry, loading up a high performance car with all kinds of eletro driver assist program. And come on, the 996tt can be had with a SLUSHIE for CRYING OUT LOUD. That is so sad, since 996tt can be driven in 6th at 30mph... But then, Porsche had long ago sold its soul to the devil when it started churning out the hampster powered slushie fitted poseur Boxsters.

And yes, next to the E46 M3 (which is affordable to me), I lust for the 993tt (which at present time, is not affordable to me).

I just hope that I get to be able to afford the 993tt sooner than later.
