I know SMT is the paddle shifting and thanks to everyone wirintg in on it- I've learned so much. But what is the STW?? Can someone clue me in?

was short-lived, not selling well at all in US. It was lighter, I think some body parts were made of different substance, and it did not have features like air conditioning which subtract from rather than add to performance. Instead, hi performance and more costly motor parts and other features conducive to performance were included. There is some rumor of a LTW version of the new m3, but many BMW historians here don't see it coming to the US. If they make a certain number of them though for the street, even if they are only sold in Europe, it qualifies the BMW racing team to enter the car in competition.

LTW is the short hand we use for "lightweight".
