As a European living in the States for the past 3 years, my experience is that Americans have no idea of quality whatsoever. They only understand images of quality, exclusivity and the like.
Every time I read something like "the larger engine is more suited to US highway driving" I feel outraged at the idiocy of the reviewer. If anything people drive faster in Europe with the smaller engined version (which is probaby not imported to the States).
It's the same with quality. You guys get features, not quality. Open your minds and look more closely when you cross the pond.

Larger engines tend to be better suited for the states because of their better low-end torque, not because of thier top-end hp. In the states, the stop light wannabe dragsters want to beat the driver in the other lane to the next stop light. Sad, but true.

With regard to quality, if us Americans didn't have a sense for quality, MB would still be producing the under-featured, under-performing, and lower-quality vehicles they were producing before Lexus hit the states. Lexus didn't have the status that MB had yet because of its quality, features, and performance, people who were driving MB and BMW went to Lexus because of it quality and value. As a result, MB and BMW improved thier breed. Unfortunately for Lexus, it still does'nt have the status that MB and BMW have.
