I'm not sure the accuracy of this, but....
A friend of mine who know somebody inside BMW NA says that
there seems to be some "problem" which a component supplied
to BMW for the engine that is not up to BMW standards. Apparently the component fails under stress testing and BMW is waiting for a "new batch" from the manufacturer. The thinking is that rather than shipping the cars with a known flaw, that BMW has cars ready to ship except that the would rather wait until the component is replaced and checked to avoid a recall on the engine. Does anybody have information supporting or not supporting this?

I'm not sure how reliable the source is but it certainly sounds like what may be happening.

When I spoke with a dealer in Chapel Hill, NC, he said delivery in MAY/JUNE. Again, not sure how well connected the dealer is either.

Feedback ?

I have spoken with two of the largest dealers in Florida, both of which confirm that they will be receiving a titanium silver test/show car within the next 30-45 days.

Both told me they are starting U.S. production in March. Meaning the first people should be called in to select options around the beginning of Feb.

Who really knows at this point, it can be delayed again for all I know, but two dealers , that I know very well , told me the same story.
